# How to set up Goals

{% hint style="info" %}
In this section, you will find insights on how to set up goals in automations in ActiveCampaign.
{% endhint %}

A goal action is a specific action triggered when a goal is reached, such as sending an email, adding a contact to a list, or updating a custom field. By using goal actions, you can create [complex automations](/activecampaign-academy/deep-dive/level-up-your-automations.md) that respond to specific contact behaviors, like opening an email or clicking a link. This enables highly targeted and personalized marketing campaigns tailored to each contact's actions.

To set up goal actions, use the "Goal" block option in the automation editor.

* Actions you can set as a Goal:
 * Sending an email
 * Adding a contact to a list
 * Updating a custom field
 * Tagging a contact
 * Pausing or ending the automation
* Actions to trigger based on specific conditions, such as:
 * Contact completing or not completing a goal
 * Contact opening an email or clicking a link

Add logic with "IF/ELSE" statements to create complex paths based on contact interactions or characteristics.\

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.wildmail.io/activecampaign-academy/exploring-further/build-your-automations/how-to-set-up-goals.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
